Rebuilding the Temple of Ram Lalla
700 Years of Faith — This Diwali, Let’s Bring It Back to Life
History of the Temple
The Shree Leelari Thakurdwara Temple, located in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, is believed to be nearly 600–700 years old. Built by our ancestors with Lahori bricks, lime, carved red sandstone, and teakwood beams, the temple once stood as a center of faith and devotion. It is not only a sacred place of worship but also an important cultural and archaeological heritage.
The Temple’s Tragic State
With the passage of time, the temple slowly crumbled.
-
Stones and debris fell from the walls and roof.
-
Worship became unsafe.
-
Eventually, the collapsing structure damaged the sanctum, leaving the idols of Shree Ram Ji, Mata Sita Ji, Lakshman Ji, Radha-Krishna Ji, Hanuman Ji, and Mata Anjana Ji broken and fragmented.
Today, these sacred deities are placed under a fragile tin shed. This sight is heartbreaking for every devotee who comes to bow their head in prayer.
Efforts So Far
In December 2020, inspired by the devotion of villagers and devotees, reconstruction began.
-
The old collapsing structure was carefully dismantled.
-
Makrana marble was procured with faith.
-
Initial work progressed.
But sadly, in 2021, due to a shortage of funds, the work came to a complete halt. Since then, the deities have been waiting under a temporary shelter for their rightful and divine abode.
This Diwali — A New Resolution
Diwali is the festival when Ayodhya welcomed Lord Ram’s return with rows of lamps. Today, we have the chance to recreate that same devotion.
This Diwali, let us light not just lamps in our homes, but also the flame of faith that will help rebuild the Temple of Ram Lalla.
