🪔 The Festival of Divine Light

Every year, the holy city of Varanasi transforms into a heaven of light during Dev Deepawali – the Festival of the Gods.
This year, on 5 November 2025 (Kartik Purnima), the ghats of the Ganga will glow with millions of lamps offered in honor of Lord Shiva’s victory over darkness.

It is believed that on this night, the gods themselves descend to the Ganga to witness the light of devotion.
Participating in this sacred act of Deep-daan (offering of lamps) brings blessings, peace, and prosperity to the entire family.

🌕 Spiritual Significance of Dev Deepawali

  • Origin: Dev Deepawali marks Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura — symbolising the eternal victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

  • Timing: It falls on the full-moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Kartik — a month known for purification, penance and devotion.

  • Rituals: Devotees bathe in the Ganga at sunrise (Kartik Snan) and light diyas in the evening to offer thanks to the Divine.

🪔 Why Lighting a Diya Matters

Lighting a diya on Dev Deepawali is not a mere ritual — it is a spiritual act with deep meaning and benefit.

Spiritual Purification

According to the Puranas, lighting a lamp on Kartik Purnima destroys past sins and purifies the soul.

🌸 Family Blessings & Harmony

Offering a diya in your family’s honour invokes peace, unity and prosperity for all members — living and departed.

🌼 Positive Energy & Inner Calm

The soft light of a lamp symbolises knowledge, hope and spiritual growth — replacing negativity with clarity and contentment.

🌊 Blessings from Mother Ganga

When a diya is floated on the sacred waters of the Ganga, it is believed to carry your prayers to the Divine — bringing peace to your ancestors and prosperity to your home.

🙏 How Truesewa Makes It Possible

TrueSewa offers you a way to participate in this sacred tradition — even from anywhere in the world.
Our volunteers in Varanasi will light a pure earthen diya on behalf of your family on the banks of the Ganga.

Please note:

No names will be written on the lamps.
Each diya is offered collectively — as a symbol of humility and universal light, not ownership.
The merit belongs to your intention, your faith, and your family’s devotion.

After the ceremony, you will receive:

  • A digital photo of the diya offered by our team during the ritual

  • A personalized thank-you note and blessing message

  • Transparency report on how your donation helped local temple communities and ritual arrangements

📜 Scriptural References & Authenticity

  • “Lighting a lamp on Kartik Purnima is equal to performing ten yajnas and giving gold in charity.” — Padma Purana

  • “Those who offer lamps to Lord Shiva on this night attain freedom from ignorance and darkness.” — Skanda Purana

  • Dev Deepawali is celebrated on all 84 ghats of Varanasi — from Assi Ghat to Rajghat — with chanting, arti and music by thousands of devotees.

💖 Why Your Participation Matters

Your diya not only symbolises your family’s faith — it also helps support:

  • Local priests and volunteers conducting rituals and arti

  • Procurement of eco-friendly earthen lamps and pure oil

  • Clean-up and maintenance of ghats post-ceremony

  • Community feeding and support for temple workers

Every light you sponsor brings hope to someone else — and that is the true meaning of Dev Deepawali.
